Do you know that Houston has the third largest consular corps in the nation after New York and Los Angeles? There are 94 countries represented in this amazingly diverse city. On December 22, 2015, Magical Winter Lights, along with the help of the Consulate General of China in Houston, organized a VIP night to welcome a group of special guests – Houston-based diplomats and their families – who represent 14 different countries, including Canada, France, Indonesia, Germany, Pakistan, Hungary, Turkey, Bolivia, to name a few… We were excited to find that our event had one of the highest attendance among all events organized by the Consular Corps of Houston.
Consuls were taken on a guided tour throughout Magical Winter Lights where they were wowed by our larger-than-life lanterns representing famous tourist attractions around the world. Some were pleasantly surprised by the lanterns representing their own country or continent, like the Eiffel Tower, the beautiful St. Basil’s Cathedral, the historical Temple of Heaven, one of the wonders of the world, Taj Mahal, and an iconic symbol of Houston, The Williams Waterwall.
Following the guided tour, consuls enjoyed the acrobatic show performed by our talented acrobats from Southwest China.
Are you a Houstonian transplant? Does Magical Winter Lights provide a new perspective on holiday light shows for you? What other world landmarks would you like to see in the future?
