Magical Winter Lights Recap

HOUSTON – January 11, 2017 – People Generation, the producing company of Magical Winter Lights, wrapped up the 52-day lantern festival on January 8, 2017. In its 2nd annual celebration, there were improvements, add-ons, and sponsorships that made the event more successful than their 2015 debut year.

Magical Winter Lights 2016 relocated to Gulf Greyhound Park in La Marque, Texas, introduced over 100 never-before-seen lanterns, added more live performances, and expanded their Dinosaur Land exhibit to include dinosaur rides for children.

The grounds at Gulf Greyhound Park were spacious and completely paved, making it easier for guests to maneuver through the park. New lanterns introduced this year were more interactive, like the Blue Whale Lantern. Festival goers could walk through the Blue Whale Lantern and marvel at the size – at 19.5 feet tall, 98 feet long, and 33 feet wide, it is approximately the same size as an adult blue whale in nature.

Further entertainment and live performances were added on, like the Sichuan Zigong Acrobatic Troupe and live bands – Beth//James, Harrison Swift, and Scott Morrison. Attendants who visited on December 25th were treated to a special Christmas Day Celebration with performances by the Sichuan Zigong Acrobatic Troupe, the Huang Dance Studio, the Sambabom Brazilian Dance Company, music by LG Entertainers, and special appearances by Santa Claus and the Ice Sisters.

Sponsorships also attributed to the success of MWL 2016 – partnerships included: City of La Marque, Boost Mobile, and Life Storage. Title sponsor, City of La Marque, granted MWL $50,000 in efforts to cover marketing costs. In return, People Generation executed a series of branding campaigns to create name recognition and awareness for the City of La Marque.

Final results of attendants are still being concluded. However, Facebook reviews from visitors are in with positive feedback on this year’s improvements.

Absolutely spectacular! So much art & culture in one spot, the festival offers something for everyone! Extraordinary light displays, realistically animated dinosaurs, talented Chinese acrobats and we even met Elsa & Anna! It really exceeded my expectations! Like Disneyworld in Houston! A MUST see!!” – Kim Kratochvil, MWL 2016 visitor.

“This is the best lighting display I have ever seen. Everything was high quality and colors were very vibrant. The lighting was perfect. I did not see any lights burnt. It was not overcrowded because there was plenty of space between displays[…]” – Suresh Balchandani, MWL 2016 visitor.

“The lights were bright and colorful. Beautiful view at night. The lines were not long as I had anticipated so that was a plus. The entrance had enough space to take pictures without being crowded. Dinosaur land was life-like. The “dinosaurs” moved and had realistic sounds. This experience was great for the family. Kid friendly. I can’t wait to go again next year.” – Karen Mireles, MWL 2016 visitor.

We would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to our sponsors City of La Marque, Boost Mobile, and Life Storage. Without their support, Magical Winter Lights 2016 would not be possible. Special thanks to Gulf Greyhound Park for housing MWL this season. Lastly, but not least, to the people of Houston and surrounding areas, we thank you! Thank you for coming out and making Magical Winter Lights a part of your holiday tradition.
